Mamba Yoga Mum Baby Yoga and Post Natal Yoga
Mum and baby yoga includes especially adapted post natal yoga for this period. This is the period post birth to one year but varies according to individuals. Post Natal Yoga focuses on gentle progressive strength exercises. These exercises help to reintegrate core strength and stability post birth. We include baby in some of the exercises where appropriate but also give mums as much time as possible to rest time from carrying.
What to expect from a class
Classes are suitable from 6 weeks. Please wait 8-12 weeks if baby arrived via a C Section delivery. Please also make sure you have your GP’s permission for gentle exercise before beginning these classes. I screen for any health issues and common post natal issues such as possible abdominal separation (or diastus recti) and ensure the practices are safe and appropriate for you at all stages.
Post Natal adapted Yoga which helps you gently stretch out and release tension. Post natal Yoga also includes working on strength and stability. Pilates and somatic movements are used in my classes to help with this.
We incorporate breathing which helps to reconnect to pelvic floor and integrate abdominal strength. We also include breath awareness and practices to help relief stress and fatigue.
Babies get to enjoy some basic baby massage and songs. I get to enjoy plenty of baby hugs where mums do not mind 🙂
Socialise and make other mum friends
The classes are sociable. There is time for tea and light refreshments after so you can chat to other new mums. This is a big part of these classes as support from others is so important at this time. Many of the mums from both pregnancy yoga and mum and baby yoga stay good friends for many years.
Mum & baby post natal yoga prices and venues
I currently run these classes on Wednesdays in The Community Space, Tesco Riverside, Bournemouth Extra (near Bournemouth Hospital) and Thursdays at Urban Shanti Boscombe & Pavilioon Dance.
Wednesdays 930-1015 am Mums with babies 6 months plus (tea and cake until 11 am)
Wednesdays 1115- midday Mums with babies 6 weeks to 6 months (tea and cake til 1230 pm)
£6 per session Wednesdays including refreshments, monthly booking essential – free parking is available in Tesco carpark.
Thursdays Mum & baby Yoga 6 weeks to walking at 11 am at Pavilion Dance Southwest, Bournemouth (not during summer or christmas school holidays)
Parking is available near to the Centre or in any of the beach car parks or Westover Road or Pavilion Theatre. Please note this can be costly so some mums walk or bus to the classes. You can also park on the outskirts and walk in.
